In high school we had an assignment to write a “How To” piece on writing a story. It is one of the only pieces I wrote then I still feel the same way about now. I had the opportunity to post the list elsewhere recently, but felt it was worth putting up here as well.
- Write engaging characters
- Have those characters do interesting things
- Force those characters to confront their faults and grow
- Make that character growth important on a personal level for the character, and on a higher level for the plot as well.
